Marines of the Southeast Division, and visitors across the country. This has been a wicked month in our homes. Every state in the division has experienced tornado activity and it isn’t over yet. We have had rain, flooding and before that, record cold winter through out the area.

An interesting phenomenon springs from crisis and catastrophe. We learn again why we are a band of brothers (includes the sisters). Marines from all over the Southeast have contacted me requesting updates and directions on how to help where needed.

We have been very fortunate so far, in that we have had no reported Marine damage or injury. We have had some harrowing stories of near misses however. Every day I am shown again why I am the luckiest person in the world. We have the most wonderful hearts in America here and every one of us can be proud of the actions and words from our Comrades here in the Southeast. Thank you Marines and keep up the excellent work.

Another brother who is sidelined right now and could use some words of encouragement is National Jr. Vice Commandant Jim Tuohy. Jim went to the hospital to have a rather common surgical procedure done on one of his knees. In fact he had had the same procedure done on the other knee a couple of years ago with no problems. This time he developed an infection in the knee and has had to have it done again.

As any of you who have has surgery know, these infections can be more serious and more debilitating than the original condition. Please remember Jim and send him a message of support. When I talked to him he was at home in bed. Oh; the reason I talked to him…he was in bed waiting for a nurse and he saw out plight and that of Aiken, SC on TV and decided to call to see how we were doing. A Band of Brothers. Get well soon Jim.

Visitors, we welcome you. We ask you to take a tour of the Southeast through this website. Any staff member can answer your questions or can direct you to the answer. As you can see we are very proud of what the Marines of the Magnificent Seven have done. And I thank PNC  Helen Hicks for our nickname.

In my closing remarks at the Division Conference I challenged all attendees with five tools that if accepted and applied, would guarantee success in any endeavor we take on. I would like to share those here with everyone.

  1. Remember where you came from:
    1. We are in business to SERVICE the Red Hats.
    2. The very foundation of the League is the Detachment.
    3. If they don’t exist there is no Division, Department or National HQ.
  2. Everything that has ever happened in my life, good or bad, is the result of a decision I made.
    1. Bad things happen to good people. Some things come into our lives in spite of what we do. The question then is how we handle it. We are measured by how we handle the tough times.
  3. Usually, it’s “just that simple”.
    1. We often hear from those with challenges, “You don’t understand” or “it’s not that simple”. Usually it is.
    2. If you see a problem, see the solution.
    3. Don’t complicate things
  4. Learn the lessons that the people coming and going in your life have to teach.
    1. Everyone entering your life is there for a reason.
    2. They have some lesson for you to learn.
    3. Figure out what it is; good or bad.
  5. We can accomplish great things if we don’t care who gets the credit.
    1. This is probably the most important and most difficult of all the rules. It’s also indisputable.

We can debate, discuss, analyze and think about these points, but their effectiveness will never be realized until they are put into practice. Got something to add? Share your thoughts and ideas.
